Women consider coloring their hair one of the most important changes in their life. Many women like to experiment with darker or lighter shades, and no one gives a second thought on the process. However, commercial hair dyes are full of dangerous and carcinogenic chemicals which can damage your hair and health as well. Luckily, there is a simple and safe way to lighten your hair without the risk of damaging it. It’s an ancient homemade dye that our grandmothers used ages ago.
Cinnamon, the sweet spice we use in cookies and hot beverages can lighten the hair naturally and make it shinier and stronger. You can apply it on your hair, but make sure it doesn’t touch the roots. By keeping it on your hair for a longer period, you will be able to bring down your hair color by a couple of shades. Here’s what you should do:
- 3 tablespoons of cinnamon powder
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 cup of hair conditioner
Preparation and use
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl with a wooden spoon, then wash your hair with shampoo, pat it dry and divide it in small sections. Now, apply the cinnamon mixture on every strand and put a shower cap over your hair, then wrap your hair with a towel. Leave the mixture to work for half an hour, then remove the towel and cap and let it work for another 3-4 hours. Depending on your preference, you can leave the mixture to work more or less. Rinse with warm water in the end and enjoy your new hair color!
To intensify the effect, you can use 4 tablespoons of cinnamon instead of 3. The procedure can be performed for as much times as you like as it doesn’t have any side-effects. You might, however, have a problem if you’re allergic to cinnamon or honey. If you’re not, you can safely use the mixture to lighten your hair color without using chemical dyes.
